Bio

Jonathan A. Gregory (b. 1981) is a versatile percussionist, researcher, and educator specializing in the indigenous music of Brazil. Mr. Gregory is a graduate of the University of North Texas receiving in 2006, his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Mr. Gregory performed in major festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, in Switzerland, and performed with such artists as Jovino Santos Neto, Lenine and Donatinho, to name a few. He has written articles for Percussive Notes and Músico Pro magazines, and the book, A Comprehensive Guide to Brazilian Pandeiro (2007). Mr. Gregory participated in a residency program at indigenous communities in Taiwan teaching music, taught ethnic percussion in the US as a faculty member for the Global Percussion Drum School Inc., performed on Broadway shows in cruise ships on the Mediterranean (Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.) and performed regularly with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jaraguá do Sul (FJDS) conducted by Daniel Bortholossi. Currently he pursues a Masters degree (M.M., Musicology) from the Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – UNIRIO, under the supervion of professor Elizabeth Travassos Lins, Ph.D.
